How to Delete Your Binance Account: Complete Deactivation Guide
There are many reasons someone might want to close their Binance account — switching to another exchange, exiting the crypto market, privacy concerns, or moving to a region where Binance is not available. Whatever your reason, this guide covers the complete account deletion (deactivation) process, what you must do before closing your account, and what happens to your data and funds afterward.
Important: Read Before You Delete
Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Before you proceed, understand:
- All account data will be deleted: Your trading history, transaction records, and personal data will be removed from Binance's systems (subject to legal retention requirements)
- You cannot reopen the account: Once deleted, the account cannot be restored
- Your email can be used again: After a waiting period, you may be able to register a new Binance account with the same email, though this is not guaranteed
- No automatic withdrawal of funds: You must manually withdraw all funds before requesting deletion — Binance will not process an account deletion while funds are held in the account
Step 1: Withdraw All Funds First
This is the most critical step. Before initiating the deletion process, ensure your Binance account balance is completely empty:
Withdraw Cryptocurrency
- Go to Wallet > Overview in your Binance account
- Check all spot wallet balances, including all token holdings
- For each balance, go to Wallet > Withdraw and send funds to an external wallet address you control
- Also check your Funding Wallet, Futures Wallet, Earn/Savings wallet, and any other sub-wallets
Withdraw Fiat Currency
If you have fiat (USD, EUR, etc.) in your account:
- Navigate to Wallet > Fiat and Spot
- Use the Withdraw function for fiat to send to your linked bank account
- Bank transfers may take 1-5 business days to settle
Cancel Open Orders
Make sure no open trading orders remain active:
- Go to Trade > Open Orders
- Cancel all open limit orders, stop-loss orders, and any other pending trades
Redeem Savings and Staking Products
If you have funds locked in Binance Earn, Staking, or other yield products:
- Navigate to Finance > Earn or Staking
- Redeem all positions (some fixed-term products may have early redemption fees or waiting periods)
Close Futures Positions
If you use Binance Futures:
- Go to Futures dashboard
- Close all open positions
- Transfer funds from your futures wallet to your spot wallet
- Then withdraw from the spot wallet
Step 2: Unlink External Services and Payment Methods
Before deleting your account, disconnect any external services:
- API connections: Go to Profile > API Management and delete all API keys. This prevents connected trading bots or apps from generating errors after your account closes.
- Linked bank accounts and cards: Unlinking these prevents any future confusion with payment processors
- Third-party app connections: Remove any third-party portfolio trackers or tools connected via OAuth
Step 3: Download Your Transaction History
Once your account is deleted, you will lose access to your trading history. For tax and record-keeping purposes, download your complete transaction history before closing:
- Go to Wallet > Transaction History or Orders > Order History
- Use the export function to download CSV files of your trading records, deposits, and withdrawals
- Keep these records for at least the required period in your jurisdiction (often 5-7 years for tax purposes)
Step 4: Initiate the Account Deletion Request
Binance handles account deletion through a formal process. The exact steps may vary slightly based on the current version of the platform:
Via the Binance Website
- Log into your Binance account
- Navigate to: Profile icon > Security > Disable Account (or "Close Account")
- Alternatively, go to Profile > Personal Information > Close Account
Via Binance Support
If the self-service option is not available in your account:
- Navigate to Support > Submit a Request
- Select "Account Related" as the category
- Submit a request specifying that you want to permanently close your account
- Include a clear statement that all funds have been withdrawn and you understand the deletion is permanent
What Binance Will Ask You
During the deletion request, Binance typically:
- Confirms your identity (asks for your account password and 2FA code)
- Asks you to confirm that all funds have been withdrawn
- Asks for a reason for closing (optional in most cases)
- Sends a confirmation email to your registered address — you must confirm through the email to complete the deletion
Step 5: Confirmation and Waiting Period
After submitting the deletion request:
- Binance sends a confirmation email — click the confirmation link within the specified time window (usually 24-48 hours)
- There may be a waiting period (sometimes 24 hours to 7 days) during which you can cancel the deletion if you change your mind
- After the waiting period, the deletion is processed and becomes irreversible
What Happens to Your Data After Deletion
Upon account deletion:
- Your personal information is removed from Binance's active databases
- However, Binance is legally required to retain certain transaction records for a period determined by applicable law (typically 5-7 years in most jurisdictions)
- Your email address is freed up after a certain period
Reasons to Reconsider Before Deleting
Before proceeding with deletion, consider these alternatives:
If You Are Concerned About Security
Rather than deleting, enhance your security settings: enable 2FA, set up a withdrawal whitelist, and use a withdrawal freeze if you are worried about unauthorized access.
If You Are Taking a Break from Crypto
You can simply stop using your account. Binance does not charge inactivity fees. Your account remains available whenever you decide to return to trading.
If You Are Unhappy with Fees
Consider using BNB to pay fees (25% discount) and entering a referral code for additional discounts. Switching to a different fee tier through higher trading volume may also help.
If You Are Moving to a New Country
Research whether Binance operates in your new location before closing. In many cases, users can continue using their existing account from a new country.
After Your Account Is Deleted
Once deletion is complete:
- You will receive a confirmation email from Binance
- You can no longer log in to the account
- Any Binance referral commissions or rewards that were pending will be forfeited
- If you wish to use Binance again in the future, you would need to create a completely new account and complete KYC verification from scratch
Tax and Legal Considerations
Closing your Binance account does not relieve you of any tax obligations related to your crypto trading activity. Most jurisdictions require you to report cryptocurrency gains, losses, and income on your tax returns. Ensure you have:
- Downloaded all transaction records
- Reported all taxable events from your Binance trading
- Consulted a tax professional if your crypto activity is significant or complex
